Comic Art He’s a Witch!? | WEBTOON (webtoons.com)
In a few words:
In a world torn in half by the war between witches and mages, Aarco finds out witches may be closer than she thinks. Way, way, way, closer.
In more words:
Aarco may have stolen her magical familiar AND she may have only been provisionally accepted into the Royal Mage Academy on a small technicality AND she may have only been taught magic by a book that may or may not be an Archmage’s pity gift BUT she’s determined to be the best familiar mage out there! Unless that also somehow goes wrong. Emphasis on wrong.
In even more words:
In a world torn in half by the war between witches and mages, each side has settled into their side of the globe, cowering behind a chasm called “The Great Divide”. This massive scar physically divides both races, and a tenuous peace has wriggled its way between the two. Although each side rests in their allocated side of the globe, the Archmage Jene uncovers an illness that ravages mages closest to The Great Divide, that his friend claims is caused by the absence of witch mana. When Jene discovers that every scientist who worked with his friend has disappeared, he fears the worst. After meeting one of the scientist’s daughters, Aarco, he gives her a journal he knows will lead her to the truth of the matter and vanishes from the public eye.
With little guidance from her peers, parents, and even Jene, Aarco is unable to cure or determine this mystery. In spite of this, she is determined to attend school and become a mage like her idol – Archmage Jene. In a unfortunate turn of events, she unwittingly puts herself in the path of both a vengeful assassin, a misguided ambassador, and an Archmage who has all but given up on what he swore he’d fix. Will our heroine be able to cure this illness, or even be able to discover its existence? Or will this curse and her childhood hero lead her to an early grave?

3D and working with materials with my hands has always been important to me. Something about being able to fully grasp a project as a 3d object in real space can help with 2D art in a way that I feel is underappreciated. When I first began to design magical creatures for my comic I decided to create them with clay first.
I took ceramics very seriously and know how to build using many types of building methods. I’ve used slab, coil, wheel-thrown, and pinch-pot techniques though I prefer and love most armature builds for detailed sculpting. I am also experienced in casting, but I’ve mainly used that for costume and mask making with latex. If I had the tools I would gladly explore metal/bronze casting, but I’m not quite rich enough for that yet.
Although I focused mostly on water-based clay I have also worked with air dry, stone clay, oil -based clay, and other mediums that fix your ceramics if you messed them up while firing (like epoxy clay and bondo). If you are familiar with such a process, you’ll know that means a lot of my projects were hand painted as you can’t glaze and fire them after using bondo or epoxy clay, though I am experienced in underglazes, glazes, horse hair, and Raku. I mainly use oil paint, but I also know my way around acrylic.

Figure drawing was a very important part of my drawing cirriculum in college. We used strictly charcoal and worked on 2 minute, 20 minute, and 2-4 hour poses (you’ll see on the right they’re organized respectively). Unfortunately we only had two models, but I like to think I used them to the fullest.
If you notice, up above the model we had for 3D figure sculpting was actually the same as this guy down here we used for figure drawing.

This took about 3 months to complete. It had latex gloves that took me down to 3 fingers, a full latex mask that had a beard sewn in, and satyr legs that to be honest gave me many blisters. I used applique, latex casting, prop making with sintra, and an arduino chip (that was programmed to run the tail that I unfortunately didn’t get strong enough servos to run).
I was chosen as a finalist for the Dota 2 International Cosplay Competition during TI 8 (the first year OG won). Here’s live footage from the event:
TI8 COSPLAY COMPETITION FINAL – THE INTERNATIONAL 2018 DOTA 2 – YouTube

This was my first costume I tried for The Dota 2 International Cosplay contest.
I completed this in about 2 months.
I made a simple 3d file in CAD and printed the gems with a friend’s printer. They printed solid so the LED would look better lighting it up. The book was a functional box that had a hinge and a storage compartment. I screwed leather straps into to make it a book, that I wore as a backpack.
The hat had LED candle lights that turned off with a little remote. The script on the hat ribbon and backpack I made embroidery patterns and embroidered using a machine.

I’ve done appliqué before and I felt like Riki’s shoulders needed that look. I hand sewed golden designs onto the shoulder pad fabric with a blanket stitch after cutting and basting them, then finished it with a quick sew around each shape. Since this is the “Rightful Heir” set I felt that needlework was especially…
I created some simple mechanisms so the legs move more naturally as I walk. Similar to other satyr leg designs I started with high heels but I went with a wedge model so they were easier to shape and more stable for standing. The mechanisms will be secured to the lining with elastic. The fur…
Sculpting the hand itself felt fairly simple. I first sculpted the clay around my hand, then slipped it off and formed an inner structure with pens and pencils. After sculpting I filled two tins with plaster and casted the hand in between the two layers. The hand mold was a little different from the mask…
I was able to finish casting the mold just before this weekend started! The plaster itself took about 10 layers, and a span of 12 hours, just to ensure each layer dried in between (although I probably could have gone faster I wanted to be safe). I would like to make a special shout out…
As promised, time lapse video is up and running! Check it out!
I’ve done some casting before but not with silicone, so I’m hoping to get some experience with this. There’s a competition within a competition so to speak that I hope to participate in coming August. It’s a costume contest that’s a highlight event during finals week for the Dota 2 International annual competition. Although I…
