I was able to finish casting the mold just before this weekend started! The plaster itself took about 10 layers, and a span of 12 hours, just to ensure each layer dried in between (although I probably could have gone faster I wanted to be safe).
I would like to make a special shout out to n1cod3mus for his excellent latex casting tutorial which you can check out here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-Latex-Mask-with-a-2-part-mold/
Since this was a simpler mask it only required a 1-part mold. The day after casting I gutted it, taking everything out with pliers and a small saw. As I got down to the initial plaster I noticed some small cracks, but they haven’t affected my casting thus far so (fingers crossed) it’s just a small detail I’ll have to buff out of the mask itself. I’m fairly sure it cracked because my first layer of plaster, the thin beauty coat, was too thin, which with my previous experience with plaster can ruin a lot of things.
I’ve moved on to pouring the latex, but I’ll update with those pictures later. As for now, check this out!
