Casting the Hand

Sculpting the hand itself felt fairly simple. I first sculpted the clay around my hand, then slipped it off and formed an inner structure with pens and pencils. After sculpting I filled two tins with plaster and casted the hand in between the two layers.

The hand mold was a little different from the mask cast, because it had to be a two part mold. A nice layer of Vaseline kept the two plaster parts from sticking together and the marbles allowed key points for the mold to fit together nicely during and after casting. Next comes the latex, which will be fitted with a foam base to keep the latex taught.

Each latex piece requires at least 10 layers so wish me luck!
