I’ve done appliqué before and I felt like Riki’s shoulders needed that look. I hand sewed golden designs onto the shoulder pad fabric with a blanket stitch after cutting and basting them, then finished it with a quick sew around each shape.

Since this is the “Rightful Heir” set I felt that needlework was especially important, so I opted to add embroidery to whatever design aspects of the costume I could. The embroidery was drawn digitally and then converted to an embroidery machine pattern using PSE Design. The machine handled the rest!
